Solar charged

Solar City New Zealand Ltd are solar charged and the kind of guys who never stay still. Their involvement with the First Light house is just one of their recent achievements. The First Light house, developed by Victoria University students, is powered by the sun.  It is one of 20 entries worldwide and the only entry from the Southern Hemisphere to make it to the finals of the prestigious US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011.

SolarCity’s Thermocell panel recently won an award from the NZ Designers Institute under the sustainability category.  As the nation’s leading manufacturer of solar hot water panels they have put more Kiwi made panels on homes and businesses than anyone else. They are also keen supporters of the local community and are proud sponsors of the SolarCity Summer Movies coming to a park near you in January.

TasmanGlass Supplier NewsTasman Glass has brought out a new product to make our homes warmer. Planitherm total low-E glass is a high performance coated glass, designed for use inside double glazed units. Its high quality coated surface with a much better clarity and thermal rating, is superior to existing hard coat products which are currently in the market. Combined with Argon gas, the Planitherm double glazed unit insulation value performs twice as good as a standard double glazing. The end result is a reduction in heating and cooling costs, with a more even and controllable temperature in the home, along with reduced condensation issues, to make your home more comfortable and economical.

Waimea logo small Supplier NewsWaimea Sawmillers is awaiting the results of the recent public consultation on timber treatment undertaken by the Department of Building and Housing. We very much appreciate the support of the many South Islanders, including our local Mayors. Results are expected in January 2011.

Waimea Sawmillers and our partners at ITM are keen to see locals making the most of our fantastic local Douglas fir timber resource. Douglas fir has built in durability which means that in many applications it doesn’t need any chemical treatment. It also has superior structural properties, which make it not only the healthier, more natural option, but also the best structural option. Its local roots from growing to manufacturing frames and trusses also make it the carbon friendly, sustainable and affordable option.
