ITM

ITM are supporters of sustainable building practices. On the website www.itm.co.nz you will find a number of useful resources on sustainable building to assist both building professionals and homeowners. We highly recommend you obtain a copy of our building guides on ‘Sustainable Building’ and ‘How to Minimise Construction Waste’. These are available from your local ITM store.
Our company has a suite of products that fit within the objectives of sustainable building. We endorse the use of untreated Douglas fir in building practice and have entered into a joint campaign with local company Waimea Sawmillers to promote the product as an alternative framing solution in our region.
We promote Weathertex weatherboard. Produced using Australian hardwood sourced from sawmill tailings and managed forests, raw material is broken down and compressed into the finished product. Even though there are no added preservatives used, the product is resistant to decay.
We recommend Ecodure bamboo flooring as a sustainably-grown flooring option. Harvested from controlled forests that rejuvenate quickly; bamboo grows to full maturity in 4-5 years. Sourced through environmentally responsible suppliers it is a great solution for wooden floors.
Alternatively Formica Flooring is also an alternative for the eco-conscious home-owner. Consisting of up to 90% natural wood fibre, it is manufactured from mainly wood waste from the sawmill industry sourcing timber exclusively from sustainable forest resources. Boards are layered with a cellulose and low emission resin mix to produce a flooring of the highest calibre.
ITM nationally support the EECA insulation initiative that provides homeowners with access to a government subsidy to insulate their homes to reduce energy costs. See ITM’s website for details.
